EVENTS

The events I attend will always relate back to the real world. Their impacts can be lasting and leave different impressions on the viewers. The types of events can vary.

Here you can see the soon-to-be many events I have attended.

Woodstock

Museum

The Museum is located in the original site where Woodstock was held. People there looked up to others, I think that’s what makes the experience so different than other festivals and also why it was pivotal for the counterculture movement. People existed as one but were able to put out the things that made them different– whether it was their ideas, music, fashion, or behaviors. Along with a fun time, it was a very political thing message– people coming together to show that not everyone agrees with what the country is doing and more people are aware of the wrongdoings happening and want change.

MISINFORMATION AND FINDING THE TRUTH

Connecticut Forum

The Connecticut Forum that took place at the Hartford Bushnell on 3/23/23 had three journalists come in for a discussion about the problems that misinformation poses, and the problem that journalists face with many places developing a lack of interest in Journalism and how that affects the world. Journalists Ronan Farrow, Brooke Gladstone, and Stephen F. Hayes took part in the discussion giving their views on how misinformation is a big issue in journalism and how easily it could spread with the help of corrupt people and/or political figures.

MASS MoCA

Art Museum

The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art is located in North Adams, Massachusetts, and is known as one of the biggest contemporary visual and performing art museums in the United States.

All of the many corners of the museum were filled with art; many steered you toward a certain message while others required you to think more. My time here was spent trying to wrap my head around the possible meanings of the pieces and overall taking in the beauty of them too.

30 Americans

Exhibit

30 Americans is a moving exhibit The exhibit is made up of the artwork of many Black Americans. It was organized by the Rubell Family Collection.

The focus is centered on the issues of race, sexuality, and historical identity. The exhibit is displayed in various museums in the United States. As an Afro Caribbean who lives in America, some of the artwork resonated with me while others did not. The artworks regarding historical/self-identity and race held multiple layers to them but were clear enough to the point were anyone, new to art or not, could take in the message.

Rosh Hashana in the Park

Religious Service

Rosh Hashana is a Jewish Holiday that in 2022, occurred on September 25. The service was held in a park and was open to the community.

There were families of all sizes and many small children. The culture was expressed in every part of the service, whether it was through clothing/accessories, food, or behaviors.  It was filled with music that played after readings of scriptures or after praying times. The whole experience was calming and new; it was a great way to learn about a religion other than my own.
